Introduction

Jurassic Park is not like any other amusement park that you may think about booking a family vacation to. Jurassic Park is known for being the last place on earth that still has living dinosaurs, thanks to cloning and genetic science. However, there are some dangers when it comes to humans trying to contain dinosaurs.

At the beginning of this film, we see an accident where one of the employees of Jurassic Park is killed by one of the dinosaurs. This leads the park’s investors as well as lawyers to believe that the park is unsafe for people to visit. John Hammond, the owner of the park, is determined that his park will open to the public. In order for him to convince the lawyers and investors that the park is safe, he brings a few experts to the island. These experts must determine if the park is safe for the public or if it is too dangerous. As they will quickly find out, dinosaurs were not called one of the world’s most dangerous predators for nothing.

Ripe Apples

Near the beginning of the film, Ellie asks Alan if he would ever want to have kids. Alan, however, has a view that children are just expensive and smelly. However, when everything turns for the worst at Jurassic Park, Alan looks out for 2 children and does everything in his power to protect them from the dinosaurs. He is seen risking his life for them, calming them, and helping them get to safety. This was a great thing to see and made Alan Grant a good role model for men to follow.

Alan, Ellie, and Ian love dinosaurs, but when they are approached with the decision to endorse the park, they all decline. This is before anything bad happens at the park, which shows how important their thoughts are. All three experts are concerned that dinosaurs can’t be contained, nor should they. They put aside their love for dinosaurs and thought about the importance of making sure it was safe for the public.

Rotten Apples

The violent content in this film is quite intense. Dinosaurs are seen eating human on and off screen. We see severed limbs, as well as a lot of blood. If the graphic quality was better for when this film was made, I would have no doubt that the film would probably have been rated R. The film is paced like a suspense film and we see multiple people be killed. This content alone is meant for more mature audiences.

One character has a computer background of a woman in a bikini. Ellie asks Alan if he ever wants to have kids.

We see one character smoking a cigarette for the entire time he is on screen. A few other people drink alcohol in celebration in a few scenes. No one is seen drunk, however.

We hear the s word about 4 times. The h, d, and a word are used once or twice. The Lord’s name combined with the d word is heard a few times. The b word is used once or twice. This language is spread throughout the film but is not too frequent as most of the time the characters are screaming or running away from dinosaurs.

We hear about evolution a lot in this film, and while some scientific facts shared in this film may be true, a majority of them are not. Dr. Ian Malcolm states that the dinosaurs are millions of years old and shares ideas of that kind throughout the film.

Conclusion

I was very excited to watch this film because it had been on my watchlist for a while and I have to say that it did not disappoint. The plot was interesting and kept me glued to my seat. The entire film I was filled with suspense, waiting to see who would survive and if the characters would be able to get out of the park before it was too late. For being made in the early 90’s, the dinosaurs and other props looked so real and it made the experience even better.

With all that being said, this film can be violent and even scary at times for some viewers. I would recommend this film only to young adults and above due to some scenes that are in this film.
