God's Not Dead: In God We Trust
When you're surrounded by darkness, look for the light.
Overview
In a time of profound political, civil, and spiritual turmoil, Reverend David Hill grapples with the crucial question: Does God still have a place in politics? Compelled to enter a congressional race after the sudden death of a favored incumbent, David faces off against state senator Peter Kane, a formidable opponent determined to push religion out of the public square and cause greater divide. With relentless scrutiny and immense challenges, David’s campaign becomes a beacon of hope and optimism for many people yearning for spiritual and moral leadership. As he navigates the treacherous waters of modern politics, David’s faith and principles are put to the ultimate test.
Introduction
After the homeschool hearings, Reverend David Hill has been having a tough time keeping the church and its services open. The government is shutting down the women’s shelter that the church has been supporting. David feels like he can’t do anything to fix the problems, until he is approached about running for Congress. David initially feels that politics isn’t right for him, but after he thinks about it and understands the gravity of the situation our country is in, he decides to run for his district’s seat in the House of Representatives. His opponent, Peter Kane, wants to remove God from our government and vote for legislation that will further put the government in control of the people. Can Reverend David Hill appeal to the voters and make a real change in Washington?
Ripe Apples
Politics is a dirty game, and it almost always has been. When first approached about running for Congress, David doesn’t think that it is the right thing for him. Even after he decides to run, his campaign manager recommends that he not talk about God. However, David continues to speak from his heart about God to the voters. We see David refuse to participate in the dirty games that are involved in politics. He makes it clear that he wants to make promises to the voters and he wants to keep those promises. The voter’s trust matters a lot to him.
Many of the speeches that are made in this film reflect the real world today. One of the main ones that stuck out to me was that 90 million Christians don’t vote. If those people voted in elections, the country would not be where it is today. Christians around the world could make a difference, and this film calls people to do that. I also appreciate the film showing that we have to stand up for our beliefs. At times, David feels like there are barriers in front of him that he can’t move. He begins to realize he can’t move the barriers, but God can. David’s trust in God is a great example for all Christians to follow.
Lottie originally comes to help David run for office so that she can get revenge on John Wesley, her ex-husband. However, as the film goes on, she realizes that revenge is not the way and there are bigger things going on than getting revenge for something John did to her.
Rotten Apples
In the beginning of the film there are a few clips of protests and violence that have been seen on the news recently.
John Wesley is obsessed with Lottie and is seen making some creepy comments and advances towards Lottie. In one scene, Lottie shares that John asked her to abort the child she was pregnant with. Lottie refused to do this, however.
We see some alcohol consumed at a few events.
There is no language in this film worth mentioning.
Conclusion
Overall, this film is similar to the last God’s Not Dead film. While not about homeschooling, this film focuses on where our country is as a whole. It emphasizes that there are many Christians who do not vote, and if they did they could help save this country. The film gives an idea of what could happen to the USA if we stand on the sidelines. As Christians, we have a responsibility to vote for what we believe in. We need to stand for what the Bible teaches and vote for candidates that best represent our beliefs. I highly recommend you check out this film as it is a great installment in the God’s Not Dead franchise and very thought provoking.
