Introduction

Tommy is a retired marine that now works at his garage and repairs motorcycles. His life is plagued with bad memories, so he drinks a lot to try to forget the past. However, after work one day he receives a phone call from an old friend that says that she has found his long lost daughter that he knew nothing about. Tommy reluctantly agrees to care for Tulsa, his supposed daughter, for the time being while they try to figure out if she is his biological daughter or if she needs a new home.

Tulsa is really excited to get to know her dad, but when she first meets him she realizes that he needs help. She helps her father overcome his addictions and past so that he can become a better man and father. The way that Tulsa does this is both heartwarming and very funny. The film is a great lesson that anyone can change and that love is forever.

Ripe Apples

In the beginning of the film, we see that Tommy leads a very depressing life. His past is full of unpleasant moments and he is seen drinking and doing anything possible to forget everything that happened. However, once Tulsa enters his life, we see Tommy begin to change. It isn’t instantaneous, but this movie shows that anyone can change.

One of the first things that Tulsa does when she moves in with her father is gets rid of all his addictive substances. She wants to help him conquer his addiction and slowly we see that her influence and help will help Tommy conquer his addiction. We also see Tulsa trying to witness to Tommy about the Gospel. Tommy is reluctant at first but as Tulsa has an influence on him, Tommy becomes a good father.

Spoiler

After Tulsa’s death at the end of the film, Tommy continues to be a good father as he adopts Tulsa’s friend. Tommy learns after her death that she was not actually his daughter, but he still calls her his daughter since she helped him out of his life of misery and pain.

Rotten Apples

There is nothing really rotten about this movie, but there are some things to mention that you may want to consider when watching as a family.

We see a little girl get hit by a moving vehicle in one scene off-screen. She is hospitalized soon after, and we hear them talk about a procedure they will have to perform to remove the blood leakage from her brain.

We see Tommy being very mean to his girlfriend in a flashback, and it is indicated that they slept together before marriage and she got pregnant. Tommy just wanted her to get rid of it rather than take responsibility for his actions and raising a child. He later learns that this was wrong of him to do and apologizes. Tommy is seen shirtless a few times.

We see Tommy on multiple addictive substances at the beginning of the film. Slowly Tulsa helps him overcome his addiction, but we still see him consuming these addictive substances. He does get sick a few times as he gets over it, which involves him going to the bathroom multiple times.

Additional Thoughts

This movie is very heartwarming as we see a father being helped by his long lost daughter to get back on the right track of life. The film has a very entertaining story and the fact that it is based of a true story makes it ten times better. It definitely is a tear jerker, however, as the ending is very sad. It reminds the viewer of an important lesson that nothing is permanent and we need to do the most we can with the time that we have.

Conclusion

In the end, this is a really great movie to watch. The story is a heartwarming story that teaches a lot of valuable lessons. It teaches that people can change and nothing is permanent. Both of these lessons are crucial to learn and needed in society. This movie also has some comedy and Tulsa has some funny ways of helping her dad break his addictions. I highly recommend this film.
