Introduction
Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is a drone repair technician that has been tasked with helping protect what remains of the earth. The year is 2077, and in 2017, scavenger aliens came to earth which resulted in a war that involved nuclear weapons.
The humans won the war, but at the cost of the Earth becoming completely uninhabitable. Jack Harper has two weeks before he can join the remaining survivors on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons where all the survivors have relocated.
However, as Jack is repairing drones he runs into a woman that he recognizes. Since his memory was wiped before he was stationed on Earth, this confuses him, and therefore he begins to ask questions, and the answers are both shocking and horrifying.
Ripe Apples
Jack begins to ask questions when things don’t seem to make sense to him. When he realizes the truth, he tries to tell everyone possible because he doesn’t want anyone to be killed.
Jack realizes that the woman that he recognized was actually his wife and he gives his all to protect her from danger. Jack is even seen at the end of the film sacrificing his life to save his wife and all remaining human life.
Rotten Apples
There is a lot of sci-fi violent content in this film. People are shot and vaporized into ash. Drones are seen exploding and killing hundreds. We see one person shot and bleed almost to death. Blood is seen on Jack quite often. In the beginning of the film, the Scavengers may seem deadly and dangerous.
There is one scene in which a woman takes off her dress and you see her backside. She is in a pool with Jack and they kiss. It is implied that they slept with each other and that they share a bed. Jack is seen showering with a woman and Jack is seen shirtless in a few scenes. We see naked people in cloning pods, but no nudity is seen.
One man is seen smoking in one scene.
There is a lot of language in this film. We hear 5 s words (one being bs). We hear the Lord’s name misused twice as well as the d word combined with the Lord’s name 3 times. SOB is heard twice. There is 6 h words and 1 d word. The f bomb is used towards the end by Cruise as they kill Sally.
My Thoughts
Overall, I enjoyed this film. Tom Cruise did an amazing job acting in this film. I really enjoyed seeing Cruise in a Sci-Fi film. The plot was very deep and was confusing at times, but after watching the whole film it felt like the puzzle had been put together and left me satisfied with the ending.
Jack has a lot of character development throughout the film and Cruise does a great job of making it feel like the viewer is experiencing the same feelings Jack is.
The supporting cast, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurlenko, and Andrea Riseborough did a great job as well at their characters. I love that Morgan Freeman was able to bring just a little bit of comedy to the film that didn’t seem over the top.
Conclusion
Overall, my personal review for the film is 8/10. It was a visually stunning, well told story with amazing acting. Tom Cruise did a fantastic job in this Sci-Fi flick. I would definitely watch this film again.
However, for my family friendliness I will have to rate it only 5/10. There is a lot of language in this film that definitely earns the film it’s PG-13 rating. I would highly recommend 16 and up to watch this film.
