Once upon a time in Storybrooke, Emma Swan, as bails bond collector goes to meet her son, Henry Mills, who she gave to a orphanage when he was young. She reunites with him but finds that the town that Henry lives in is magical and different and she is determined to find out why.
Introduction
Once upon a time there was a mystical town named Storybrooke. This town looks like all other towns, however, there are some huge differences. The first being that nobody that lives in the town can leave, as the town is cursed. Second, all the townsfolk are fairytale characters, from the local diner owner to the schoolteacher. When newcomer Emma Swan comes to the town, she finds her long lost son that she dropped off at a foster home many years ago. However, all he keeps talking about a fairytale book that explains the many mysteries about the town. Emma thinks that all of this is just kids being kids, until she begins to see the magic and mysteries for her own eyes…
Ripe Apples
Emma doesn’t want to help the people of Storybrooke in the beginning of the series. She would rather just get her son out of there and move on with her life. However, as the story continues, Emma sees that the people need help and begins to help them with their problems. We also see people sacrifice their lives for the people they love.
We also see Emma start to regret the decision that she made to leave her son and continue life. We see her genuinely wanting to get back into his life and mend the bond. We see a lot of people trying to put themselves in a place where they can serve others which is very nice to see.
Rotten Apples
The violence in this series is very mild. We see a few people stabbed, and we see some arrows shot and we see some explosions. Blood is seen but it isn’t too gory. A few people’s hearts are pulled out and squeezed to ash. We also see some people get killed. One person’s head is cut off than sewn back on, which we can see the stretch marks. A violent wolf attacks people. Other violence typically includes magic, but is not too detailed as this series is rated PG.
In one episode we see two people in bed together that aren’t married. It is hinted that they slept together. We also hear of people talking about sleeping together. A few men are seen shirtless and some woman wear revealing, but not too revealing, clothing.
There is a lot of magic in this series. We see people get cursed and blessed. One character, Rumpelstiltskin, uses a lot of magic throughout the series. In certain episodes we see more of his backstory and those episodes have more magic than others. The Queen also uses a lot of magic as well. We see one person in hypnosis trying to remember events he had forgotten.
We see a few scenes in different episodes in which we see people drinking alcoholic drinks, but no one really acts drunk. Some people drink and say they do it to forget something bad.
The language in this series is very spread out. “D-m-“, “h-ll,” and are used the most(2 or 3 and episode.). We hear the Lord’s name misused a few times(12 between 16 for the entire series). We also hear a few other words like “b—-” and “sh–” a few times. No f words are in this series.
Additional Thoughts
This show is very thought out and has an interesting plot. The way they leave each episode will make you want to watch another. The cliffhangers are very exciting. Following Emma around Storybrooke while waiting till she finds the truth will have you on the edge of your seat. You also get to see different stories about your favorite Disney princesses that you may like better.
One downside is that a lot is happening at once so the viewer can get confused a little bit about what is going on, but it isn’t too hard go get back on track.
Conclusion
In the end, this is a fun and entertaining series that I think you will love to see! It has a lot of suspense, thrill, and adventure. The way they ended the first season will make you want to come back for more. I hope you consider watching this TV series. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
