Spoiler warning!
Introduction
Katie Mitchell is an enthusiastic film maker that nobody really understands. Her family thinks that her videos are interesting, but they don’t think that she will be able to make a living off of it. However, she is determined to go to college to learn how to become a better filmmaker. However, on a last minute change, Katie’s dad decides he wants to make the most of the last car ride before leaving the house so he decides they’ll take a road trip. It starts out fine, however, when killer robots begin to capture the entire human race it is up to the Mitchell’s to save humanity,
Ripe Apples
The family is really disoriented in the beginning of the film. They only care about themselves and not about each other. However, as the film goes on they realize that not everything is about them and they need to work together to survive. They begin to grow closer to each other and they find that they love each other and only want what is best for each other. This is great to see in a film that puts a great emphasis on family and that is important to love your family and put their needs above your own sometime.
This film also is really funny. The gags and hilarious bits are great humor and mostly are appropriate for the entire family. Your entire family will not be able to stop laughing.
Rotten Apples
There is some violent content in this film. We see some explosions and we see robots try to capture people by shooting lasers. There are some scenes in which robots attack people and grab them to capture them. We also see some epic car chases.
There is some sexual content in this film, but not a lot. We hear towards the end of the film that Katie is dating a girl named Jane, indicating she’s gay. This is not ok to have in a children’s film. We also see a scene in which the Mitchell’s family is seen covering their naked bodies running into their house. Nothing is seen and this is purely for comedy. Katie’s brother has a crush on a girl.
We see no drug or alcohol content in this film.
We hear a lot of name calls like “jerk,” “dummy,” and “idiot.” There are some uses of “darn” and “hell.” The language is rather light compared to other kid’s movies coming out these days.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this film has a lot of funny moments and has a great lesson about family. It is important to be there for family when they need you. It is also important to understand that your needs are not the only needs in the world. While this movie has a great lesson, some of the content is not necessary whatsoever for this film. The fact that they had to add that Katie is gay was not necessary and robbed it of a whole star from me. We do not need this content in our films and therefore it is important that families know this content is in the film. Let us know in the comments what you think of this film!
