Overview
D'Artagnan travels to Paris hoping to become a musketeer, one of the French king's elite bodyguards, only to discover that the corps has been disbanded by conniving Cardinal Richelieu, who secretly hopes to usurp the throne. Fortunately, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king. D'Artagnan joins with the rogues to expose Richelieu's plot against the crown.
Introduction
Young d’Artagnan has dreamed of being a musketeer since he was a young boy. His father was a musketeer that died protecting the king, and that has motivated d’Artagnan to join the musketeers no matter what it takes.
However, with the upcoming war with England, the Cardinal disbands the musketeers so that there will be more people available to fight in the war. However, three musketeers refuse to give up their duties, and are determined to prove that the Cardinal is trying to help England win the war before it even begins. These three musketeers and d’Artagnan must work together to stop the Cardinal and save the king.
Ripe Apples
The three musketeers believe that their duties are sacred and that they need to protect the king even if it means that they lose their own life. The musketeers are seen on multiple occasions fighting for the good of the people and the king.
d’Artagnan is determined to become a musketeer, whatever it takes. He is constantly seen helping others and wants to serve the king. In the end, d’Artagnan is able to defeat his father’s killer and becomes a musketeer.
Rotten Apples
There are multiple sword fights throughout the film. A few scenes are seen where it is revealed that a person is about to be executed, though we do not see this happen. One person commits suicide. A few people are stabbed and are seen bleeding. In one scene the musketeers are in a dungeon which has some gruesome looking people. A few people are shot to death.
The Cardinal is heard saying some suggestive things to married women. He is seen trying to use his status as a way to convince women to want to be with him. We see a musketeer teaching a young woman theology who begins to kiss him, but they are interrupted before anything else happens. The three musketeers try to teach d’Artagnan how to kiss a lady. One woman is seen in the bath, though nothing is seen other than her head. A few men are seen shirtless.
There are a few scenes in which the musketeers are in a bar drinking. There are references that the drink they are drinking is to strong for d’Artagnan. A musketeer is seen smoking in a few scenes.
The Lord’s name is misused about 3 times and the h word is used once.
Conclusion
Overall, this film is full of action and adventure which make it very entertaining to watch. I enjoyed watching d’Artagnan and his journey to becoming a musketeer. Overall the plot is exciting and interesting. While it always seems like the Cardinal has the upper hand, the musketeers are able to outsmart him to save the day.
