Introduction
Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) has just arrived in Berlin for a special summit. However, upon arriving he accidentally leaves his suitcase at the airport. When returning to retrieve his suitcase, he is involved in a car crash. Four days later, Martin awakens from a coma with a cloudy recollection of what happened.
Slowly, he begins to remember things and he returns to the hotel that he was supposed to stay at. However, without any identification he is unable to prove who he is. Therefore, he finds his wife, but she does not seem to remember him. And to make matters worse for Martin, another man has taken his name and his identity and is living his life. Dr. Martin Harris must try to understand what happened when he was in a coma and prove that he is the real Martin Harris.
Ripe Apples
Dr. Martin Harris is very confused by what has happened to him. However, there are some people that care about him. When his cab gets in an accident, the driver, Gina (Diane Kruger) saves him from certain death. She is later seen helping him find the evidence he needs to prove who he really is.
There is also a nurse and another man by the name of Ernst who both help him as well. Ernst sacrifices his life to not let the enemy get to Martin first.
Rotten Apples
There is a lot of violence throughout this film. We see a car crash where a car is propelled into the water. Blood is seen on the victim’s faces. We also see another car chase. There are a few fist fights as well as gunfire. Knives and pieces of glass are used to stab people. We see some blood. One person is seen exploding with a bomb, but it is not very graphic. One woman’s neck is snapped in half. One person is injected with a needle that kills him and another person drinks a poisonous substance. A car is seen falling from a high height with a person inside. We do not see the person, but he is killed.
There is a scene of Martin and his wife showering together and kissing each other, but there is no nudity seen. We see this scene replayed a few times. There is one scene where you can hear a couple sleeping in the background, but nothing is seen. Dr. Martin Harris passes a shop that sells sexual things, but it is only seen for a second.
People are seen drinking at a party in a few different scenes. A few people are also seen smoking. Dr. Martin Harris is sedated and almost killed by having drugs injected into him via IV.
There is a lot of language in this film. The h word is used about 5 or 6 times. The s word is used 4 times, and the lord’s name is misused with the d word. “A—h-le” is used once.
My Thoughts
While this film has some crazy twists, you have to be paying close attention to the film to completely understand everything going on. For nearly the entire film, you are led to believe one thing and the in the last 30 minutes everything changes, which is exciting but can be confusing for some viewers. Liam Neeson was the strongest thing about this film as his performance was perfect for the film. The rest of the cast, with the exception of Diane Kruger, seem to be kind of bland. The film could have been better, but Liam Neeson did make it entertaining. Overall, I probably would give it a 5/10, as a lot could have been done differently, but overall, it isn’t a bad film to pass the time.
Conclusion
While full of twists and turns, the film’s plot can be confusing but in the end the film tries to explain everything going on in the last 30 minutes. With Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger delivering amazing acting, they are able to make the film to be entertaining. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys thrills and twists in the films they watch.
