Introduction

Henry Roth is a man who has big dreams, but settling down isn’t one of them. He easily can get a woman to like him and then after a few days he can just leave without a commitment. Henry loves his life, but he is looking for something more. As he continues on his normal routine, he meets a woman named Lucy who especially attracts his attention. He actually loves this girl, as compared to other women, and enjoys his first date with her. On the next day, he sees Lucy again and she acts like she doesn’t even know him. This confuses Henry, until one of her friends tell him that she has no short-term memory. This shocks Henry, but it doesn’t make him give up on her. Henry must gain the affections of Lucy on a daily basis as they have many first dates. Will Lucy ever remember Henry?

Ripe Apples

Henry may seem like he is not a good guy at the beginning of the film, as he seduces women and then leaves them, as afraid to commitment, but after meeting Lucy we see Henry desperately trying to help Lucy. And its not just about him, he actually cares about Lucy’s condition and tries to help her become whole again. Even if he doesn’t succeed, he never gives up trying. He makes sacrifices and cares for Lucy. Lucy’s family does the same thing, because they care about her.

This movie is very funny. It will have you laughing until you cry in some scenes. Adam Sandler does a really good job at making this movie full of comedy.

Rotten Apples

There isn’t really any violence in this film. One walrus throws up in one scene and covers the guy in vomit. We see one car wreck and a few pictures with blood but nothing too bad.

There is so much sexual content in this movie that it is really inappropriate. We hear of a guy being straight, gay, and almost every other thing he could be. Henry is really sexual and that’s all he was about at the beginning of the film. His friend comments on body parts very inappropriately. We hear multiple nicknames for body parts to the part it is so inappropriate. Woman are seen wearing immodest clothing and men are seen shirtless. One couple kisses a lot, as they keep having their first kiss. We see a couple get ready to sleep together but the scene ends, though we are told later what they did. We see part of one man’s butt. We also hear one person guess another person’s gender. Other scenes we hear of people sleeping together and many sexual nicknames. Many inappropriate sexual gestures are made. Another man says that he has “wet dreams.”

We see a few scenes in which people drink, and one guy acts somewhat drunk. In another scene someone tells Henry he’s earned a few beers. We hear multiple times that a man is on sauce, when he claims they are pills. This man is on steroids.

We hear a lot of language varying from “sh–“, “d-m-“, and “a–“. The Lord’s name is used very often. The language in this movie is extensive and unneeded.

Additional Thoughts

This movie is very funny, and the story is meaningful to show what true love is. The fact that Henry makes sacrifices every day to help Lucy is truly a great lesson. With that said, the sexual content in this film IS TOO MUCH. Just the inappropriate comments and gestures is too much. I remember watching this film and asking why all this content was in this movie, but it was enough to keep me from watching the movie again. And I didn’t even consider the language in this film.

Conclusion

Henry shows us that any man can settle down and find true love. He shows that it is important for people to care for those they love and make sacrifices. The overall story is good, but a lot of the rotten apples were not necessary and could have been avoided.  I won’t be watching this film again just because of how much there was in it. I would definitely recommend that only 18 and above even consider watching this film as it deserves an R rating. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
