Introduction

King T’Challa has come down with a mysterious illness that he has hidden from his family for years. In his final moments, Shuri attempts to recreate the herb that gave T’Challa his powers to save his life, but is unsuccessful. As a result, the king is dead, leaving everyone’s hearts with huge holes. The King and Protector of Wakanda has fallen.

T’Challa’s mother is now the Queen and now all the countries of the world want to take advantage of Wakanda since the Black Panther is gone. The Wakandans are able to protect their vibranium from the rest of the world, which leads the other countries to try to find other places to get vibranium. Surprisingly, they find more vibranium in the ocean with a special machine, which forces the Atlanteans to use force to protect their home. They are lead by the Feather Serpent god, Namor. Namor seeks to join forces with Wakanda to find the scientist that developed the machine and kill her. Wakanda, however, will not stand for killing an innocent, which leads to war.

Ripe Apples

Shuri has a lot of loss in this film. Not only does she lose her brother, but she also loses many other close friends and she wants to get revenge for all of their deaths. Therefore, she embarks on becoming the Black Panther to defeat her foes. However, she does not want to be the protector of Wakanda. She wants to avenge her friends. Eventually she realizes that she needs to show mercy and protect Wakanda. This is a meaningful lesson for this film, and one of the best parts about it.

The Queen and M’Baku both try to help Shuri on her journey to be a better person. They are their for her when she is down and is about to be consumed with rage.

This film puts a strong emphasis on protecting those you love and not giving into rage and revenge.

Rotten Apples

There is a lot of violence in this film. Many people are killed with spears and some people are impaled on screen. We see some blood. We also see many explosions and some gunshots. We also see some hand to hand combat. This violence is rated PG-13 in my opinion.

There is some sexual content in this film. A lot of men are seen shirtless. We also see some women wear shirts that show some cleavage. We also see one woman kiss another on the forehead and one says “thank you, my love.” Now this could be interpreted as gay, and Marvel probably meant it to be. But it also could be a mother daughter relationship. But, it will be interpreted by most as gay.

There is some spiritual content in this film. Namor is called the feather serpent god and there is some legends around how he came to be. We also here about Wakandan culture and how death is not the end and people can travel to the Ancestral Plain, their version of heaven.

There is some talk about drugs and herbs.

There are 3 to 4 uses of the s word. The Lord’s name is misused a couple times. We also here the a word used a few times, as well as a few uses of the d word.

Conclusion

This film is a tearjerker for original fans of King T’Challa. His absence shadows over this film and fans can only imagine what it would have been like with him in it. However, they did a good job on recognizing his legacy and paving the way for the future of the Black Panther. They did a good job at introducing Ironheart and other new characters. However, there were some parts about this film that weren’t necessary, such as the gay kiss. Though it was quick, it was not needed.

I like the way they made T’Challa hide his disease and then he died nobly. The writers actually included Chadwick Boseman’s character in this film which was amazing. Was this the best Marvel movie made however? Probably not. It was a good way to say goodbye to one hero and welcome new ones, but it is far from the best.
