A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala Khan has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. Introduction

Ms Marvel is a Disney+ series with a Muslim-American 16-year-old, Khamala Khan, as the main character. The Khan family are the main focus in this film.

The Khan family, an ordinary family, settled in the US as Pakistan immigrants. The fate of this family changes when Kamala opens an old box from her grandmother, Sana

Inside the box was a bangle. It belonged to Aisha, her great-great-grandmother who in a magical way is back channeling towards Kamala. The bangle connects Kamala to a new identity of magical powers.

With the powers, Kamala was to fight against djinns, a mythical creature, that wanted to return home using Kamala’s source of light. Besides, she also had the role of fighting against the Department of Damage Control, that made life unbearable for her family. Her cousin Nakia, her nightmare boyfriend Kamran and her friends Zoe and Bruno help her out.

Ripe Apples

The Ms. Marvel movie is good as it contains characters with outlined stories that depict moral and great life lessons that are easy for the viewers to understand and learn. The Ms. Marvel series is full of charm and lovely graffiti mostly displayed by Kamala’s active imaginations.

It has the wit and the truth that portrays what exactly happens in most Muslim societies. Ms. Marvel outlines a perspective of true love and how powerful it can be. The film, through Kamala, details how girls regardless of their age can fight for what is best for them and against any societal evils. It is good in the way it encourages viewers of never giving up as the past does not in any way dictate anyone’s future. This is shown through the change in destiny of the Khan family from being ordinary Pakistan immigrants to a family of honor. The role of good friends in life is also outlined well in the series as Kamala’s friends and cousin help her out from the beginning of the film to the end. Viewers learn and acknowledge the importance of working together with good friends through this. Time and its value is taught greatly too.

Rotten Apples

The character and performance of the villain actors depicts violence, rot in the society, drug abuse and other forms of moral decay. Their introduction into the film introduces bad language content that spoils.

Kamala goes through various violent ordeals from school to the society at large. So many fights, killings, application of superhero powers and weapon usage in the film portray violence.

In the film, there are many instances where bad language and speech is used. Words like “bad@ss,”” bastard,””jerk,””stupid” and so on are said openly. Teenagers publicly talk about their menstrual cycles, sanitary pads and tampons as if they are any public matters to talk about. This kind of language used in the film is misleading and is unacceptable as it portrays a bad image to viewers.

Ms Marvel movie series shows scenes that portray drug and substance abuse. There is a reference by teenagers to do cocaine, scenes where high school children attend illegal teenage parties and getting drunk with alcohol.

Sexual scenes haven’t been left out in Ms Marvel series. Drunk and half-naked high school teenagers lock themselves in a room. The girls are in sports bras and towels only. Other sexual scenes come up, though in some of Kamala’s active imaginations, they look real and portrays an obscene picture about the film. A character is also seen in episode 1 wearing a t-shirt with an LGBTQ logo that read “Asgard PRIDE” with some rainbow marking. This is obscene as it shows the series supports and takes pride in LGBTQ family.

Conclusion

With the vulgar and mild language content severally used in Ms Marvel, I do not find it good for kids to watch. Parents should not allow their children under 15 years to watch such a movie. From questionable adult themes, teenage alcohol engagement to extreme violent scenes, Ms Marvel can be misleading to the young generation. Kids may want to try some scenes at home because they saw it in a movie where the main character is or almost their age. It is dangerous to allow kids under 15 years to watch it, not alone and not even under parental guidance.
