Introduction
The year is 2013, and giant aliens begin to emerge from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. These monsters are called Kaiju, and they are very destructive and slowly are beginning to come more frequently. Humanity is all at risk, so they begin to create their own machines called Jaegers, machines that are capable of fighting and defeating the Kaiju. However, when the Kaiju begin to appear more frequently and stronger, humanity may need to consider trying to destroy the portal the Kaiju come through once and for all.
Ripe Apples
Raleigh Becket is an old Jaeger pilot who quit after his brother was killed in action. Since the Jaegers require two pilots with synced minds, Raleigh experienced the pain that his brother felt when he was killed. Traumatized by that memory, Raleigh doesn’t want to every pilot a Jaeger again. However, when the end of the world is at stake, Raleigh decides he will get back into a Jaeger to help save the world.
Pentecost, the marshal of the program, is seen leading his team by putting himself first, including putting himself into a Jaeger and sacrificing himself to save the world. Though at times he seems harsh, he is just trying to protect those he loves.
Rotten Apples
We see multiple fights between the Kaiju and the Jaegers, and some of them end with the pilots being killed, usually off screen. Many monsters are killed with laser blasts, or with a sword cutting them to pieces. A few explosions are seen. The violence in this film earns it its PG-13 rating. Some characters are seen with blood dripping from their nose. We see a few fist fights.
We see a man shirtless once and a women is looking at him secretly.
A few people are seen taking pills to help them with radiation poisoning. There is a black market for Kaiju flesh, and it is hinted at possibly being used as drugs.
There is a lot of language throughout this film. The h word is used about 10 times. The s word is used twice as well as the d and b word (the full word 3 times). We hear the a word used 5 times. The Lord and Christ’s name are misused once.
Conclusion
Overall, this film has a great story and some very cool action scenes. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and seeing the bond between people strengthen as humanity bonded together to defeat the threat. What did you think about this film? Let me know in the comments.
