Ripe Apples
The Batman learns a lot of valuable lessons in this movie. The main one is about what he is supposed to stand for. In the beginning of the movie, Batman believes that he must be vengeance to defeat his enemies and bring peace to Gotham. However, near the end of the movie, Batman realizes that he must become hope if he hopes to accomplish anything. Bruce also learns about his family’s dark past but he fights to fix what they did and shows that he is upset with his past and wants to fix it. Alfred and Bruce share a close friendship as they care about each other.
Batman and Cat-woman work together to figure out what happened to Cat-woman’s friend, and in the end Cat-woman wants Batman to leave Gotham since she thinks it is beyond saving but Batman does not leave because he feels it is his responsibility to fix Gotham. Batman is seen saving many lives, even if it means sacrificing his. He is a true hero by the end of the movie.
Rotten Apples
There are a lot of things wrong with this movie. I was actually surprised a Batman movie went this dark. There is a lot of violence in this movie. One persons thumb is cut off and we see the appendage later. We also see one person blown up and another is almost blown up but throws the bomb as far as he can. Whenever the Riddler kills someone, he duct tapes their face and makes them bleed. His main way to kill people is by hitting them in their head and causing them to bleed out. We see a lot of blood in this movie. Multiple people are shot, and some a punched to an amount that their faces are disfigured. The Riddler’s tactics of killing are very violent. He also is a very frightening character. We see many other explosions and people talk about violence.
Batman and another character kiss. We also see people in a type of nightclub at one point where woman are dressed very immodestly. Women dancing and people acting drunk is seen for about 5 to 10 minutes. Many women are wearing outfits showing cleavage. Batman is seen shirtless a few times and one woman is in seen in her underwear.
Many people are seen drinking in different scenes. In one scene a group of people are seen acting really drunk. Someone says that they are wasted and tries to get information out of them. One of the people that are drunk asks a woman if she wanted a ride, implying something else, but the woman declines. We also hear about a huge drug deal, and we see some being sold.
Regarding language, this movie has more than its fair share. Gordon is hear saying “Jesus” more than 10 times. We hear about 5 to 7 misuses of the Lord’s name, as well as some paired with “d-m-.” There are also 2 to 3 uses of “son of a b—-.” “Sh–” is seen onscreen once and said a lot times, more than 10. “D-m-” and “h-ll” are used about 5 times each. In the beginning of the movie the f bomb is used. “Freaking” is used once. The language in this movie is very noticeable, so take the proper precautions when watching this movie.
Additional thoughts
This wasn’t exactly a rotten apple, but I wanted to include this in my review. There is theme where a lot of people that are white are bad people in disguise while all the people that are other races are ultimately good guys. Batman and Alfred seem to be the only good white characters, and I do not think that this was coincidental. I also noticed that there are some references that Selena and one other character state that the white and rich people don’t have the right to be upset cause they have it better than everyone else, which indicates white privilege. This movie also is very long, after about 2 hours I was kind of getting bored cause this movie is very slow and confusing at times.
Conclusion
This movie has its ups but it has a lot of downs. Christian Bales Batman trilogy still has the throne of best Batman movies to date. The wokeness and violence alone is too much for one film. This movie is meant to be dark, which I understand, but a lot of the content was not necessary. This movie is also very long and if you don’t understand one part of the movie it’ll make the ride a little harder to understand that you will walk out of the theater questioning why different things happened. If you’re a person that loves thrill and mystery, and you don’t mind the rotten apples listed above, then this movie is for you. However, if you are more into Marvel’s humor and action, then this movie probably isn’t for you. Check it out and leave a comment below about what you think of this film.
